Hobbit House Plans: Want to Have a Hobbiton of Your Own? Here’s How

Anyone who's seen the hobbit house in "Lord of the Rings" may have been amazed. The small house is built under a tree, but when you enter inside, it's actually spacious. If you're a hardcore fan and want to have a hobbit house too, you can follow this hobbit house plan and guide by Ashley Yeates.

Bored Panda recently featured Yeates' hobbit house plan. The 30-year-old from Bedrock, England is a design and construction expert, and he was able to build a hobbit house in his garden.

The first step is to dig deep in the area where you want the hobbit house to be constructed. Next is to build a load bearing roof which is reportedly "necessary to make it 'mowable' once the grass was planted."

Waterproofing is perhaps the most important aspect in the construction as it was said that the structure will suffer from water damage. The hobbit hole and sod roof are then installed, and the interior is slowly built.

According to Yeates, ventilation is key in the interior to make it possible for people to actually stay inside. Yeates also detailed the waterproofing process in the article.

Meanwhile, those who don't have the space and skills to actually build a hobbit house can just visit one for a chance to explore such unique and interesting structure. You can join the Hobbiton tours in New Zealand which takes you to the various sets where the "LOTR" movies were filmed. Tourists can visit the hobbit house, the Green Dragon Inn, The Mill, The Shires Rest Café, The Shire Store and so much more.

Last year, Changi Airport Terminal 3 also featured a life-sized hobbit hole in its departure area.
