Thierry Henry Retires; Arsenal Manager Next? [Rumors]

French striker Thierry Henry has hung up his football boots after 20 years. The 1998 World Cup Winner announced his retirement on Tuesday and has signed a multimillion-pound contract to join Sky Sports as a football analyst.

The 37-year old posted about his retirement on his Facebook account. He described his career as "an incredible journey" and thanked his fans, teammates and clubs for their support.

In the post, Henry informed his supporters of what's next for him. "It is now time for a different career path and I am pleased to say that I will be returning to London and joining Sky Sports. I will hopefully share some of the insights, observations and experiences I have learnt over the years wit you guys," he said.

The football star remains to be Arsenal's all-time leading top scorer. He has 175 Premier League goals under his belt while also listed as the fourth all-time top scorer.

The France striker also played for Monaco before moving to Juventus. He joined Arsenal after leaving the Italian club where he stayed for eight years.

It was under the coaching of Arsene Wenger that Henry achieved legendary status. While in Arsenal, he won seven trophies and scored 228 goals for the club, a record no other Arsenal player has beaten yet.

In 2007, the striker transferred to Barcelona and was part of the team that won the Champions League in 2009. He moved to Major League Soccer and joined the New York Red Bulls in 2010 where he stayed until his retirement this year.

But in 2012, he was back in London for a four-match loan to Arsenal and scored a crucial goal against Leeds in the FA Cup's third round.

Many of Henry's striking performances in his career were in Arsenal. And many speculate that his next move is to go back and join Wenger in the club's management team. "That would be a dream come true, but that's not how it works," he told The Telegraph.

He added, "You have to prove yourself first, you have to learn first. You need to be able to understand what it is to be a manager." He further said that being a manager "is not that easy."

The ex-footballer is in no rush to manage his former club. "The plan is to start my badges and I guess Arsenal will help me," Henry noted.

"First and foremost I don't know how or when, but everybody knows I would love to go back to Arsenal in some capacity. But I need to be equipped to go back. I want to learn the process, so I have to get my badges and what not. We will see what is going to happen," the former striker said.

Whether that happens soon or not, fans of Henry would still be able to catch him as he joins Sky Sports next season.
