The zombie apocalypse is headed to another location. Producers of the hit TV series, "The Walking Dead" are rumored to bring the zombies in Los Angeles for the show's spinoff series.
While the name has not been finalized, producers have given it the working title, "Cobalt." In an exclusive by TV Line, AMC confirmed that the offshoot of its successful show would be set in the city of angels.
It would also have a different timeline than the current series, which is now in season 5. According to AMC President Charlie Collier, "Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead (which is set in Atlanta), fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world."
Fans could expect the same kind of horror and depth in the new series as AMC got both TWD creator Robert Kirkman and showrunner Dave Erickson to work on "Cobalt." Many speculate that the series would be set at an earlier time of the zombie outbreak and before it spread wide.
With this, it may feature more living characters than the undead in its plotline. Kirkman, who is also the executive producer of the show, hopes the new series would be able to explore the other side of the epidemic.
Speaking to E! Online after the pilot was announced, Kirkman noted, "There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill."
He added, "I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them."
While the setting may be in Los Angeles, it has not been confirmed whether production will also take place there or in another sunny city. But definitely, with a new setting comes a new set of cast.
Screenrant reported that actor Clif Curtis has been signed on to play the lead male character in the upcoming show. Curtis is known for his acting in Body of Proof and Missing. Frank Dillane, who played the Tom Riddle in the Harry Potter movies, would also join the show as the problem son of a guidance counselor. Alycia Debnam Carey, known for her acting in the movie "Into The Woods," has also been casted.
