A small American town was recently dubbed the country's best beach.
According to Elle Décor, Ocean City was voted best beach in the United States. The city is located in the state of New Jersey and is one of the 29 other nominees for the title 2016 Best Beach in America.
According to Coastal Living, other contenders included Gulf Shores, Alabama, Nye Beach, Oregon and a whole lot more. However, Ocean City and California's Huntington Beach were the two finalists for the title. It was ultimately given to the former.
Meanwhile, the publication revealed that results were based solely on votes alone, and it's possible that the residents of Ocean City were the ones who voted nonstop to ensure the beach's win.
Even if this was the case, Ocean City is truly deserving of the title because it has a stunning eight-mile stretch of sand, a 2.5-mile long boardwalk, two amusement piers and many other facilities. Events are typically held in the area as well.
The mayor of Ocean City Jay Gillian recently released a statement following their win.
"The contest included a lot of beautiful beaches, but the voters knew Ocean City is much more than that. It's a tradition and a part of life for generations of residents and guests. Days on the beach and boardwalk nights in Ocean City are the fabric of many fond memories for people across the country," he said.
