'Terminator 5: Genesis' Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Plot Spoilers We Know So Far

30 years after Arnold Schwarzenegger became The Terminator, the science fiction action franchise is back for another movie. The former governor of California will once again reprise his role as the cyborg T-800 in "Terminator: Genisys."

Filming has wrapped up and fans were treated to a sneak peek with the release of the official trailer in the first week of December. The new movie is the first among a trilogy planned by Paramount Pictures to revive the franchise.

In October, Entertainment Weekly reported that the $170 million production took notes on what made the first two movies successful and incorporated them in the creation and filming of the "Genisys."

As with the original film, "Genisys" is set in 2029 while the war between the humans and the artificial-intelligence system, Skynet continue. Led by John Connor, Kyle Reese is sent back in time to rescue his mother, Sarah. When Reese returns in the past, things are different from how they were and the action begins.

While the introduction of the film may be similar to the 1984 movie, fans could expect numerous twists in the plot as suggested by the trailer.

In the video, Sarah saved Kyle instead of the other way around. Sarah then went on to tell him that things are different and that the cyborg, T-800 is on earth. A twist in events turned the T-800 into Sarah's protector, instead of her assassin.

A big part of the story would explore Sarah's character. According to co-producer David Ellison, "Since she was 9 years old, she has been told everything that was supposed to happen. But Sarah fundamentally rejects that destiny. She says, 'That's not what I want to do.' It's her decision that drives the story in a very different direction."

Meanwhile, Enstarz.com reported that a new aspect of the cyborg's mortality would be seen in the movie as Schwarzenegger revealed.

The actor is seen sporting gray hair in the trailer, which poses a question on the machine's age. To this, Schwarzenegger said, "The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath. It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages."

The ex-governor will reprise his role as the killing machine while Emilia Clarke from "The Game of Thrones" will portray Sarah. Jai Courtney plays Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke has been casted as John Connor. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2015.
