Where Can You Buy the Cheapest Seaside Homes in UK?

Living next to the sea could be an ideal thing to do for you, but if you're looking to buy a property on the seaside, it usually doesn't come cheap.

As reported by The Telegraph, seaside properties tend to be expensive because the location is popular among retirees and tourists. Still, there are places where you might find one that you can acquire for an affordable price.

The publication listed 10 locations in the U.K. where seaside homes are the cheapest. These include Blackpool, Lancashire where you can buy a property for around £120,000; Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire where it costs an average of almost £125,000; and Leven, Fife where it is worth around £133,000 on the average.

You can also find cheap seaside homes in Whitehaven, Cumbria (£135,000); Morecambe, Lancashire (£138,000); Saltburn, Cleveland (£140,000); Bridlington, North Yorkshire (£147,000); Swansea, Glamorgan (£153,000); Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire (£154,000); and Skegness, Lincolnshire (£155,000).

But putting price aside, there are other things to consider if you're planning to acquire a waterfront property. Realty Today previously tackled why you should think twice, or a couple of times, about owning an oceanfront home, citing the case of some Australian coastal areas.

As previously reported, some of the factors to consider include the risk of climate change impact such as flooding, coastal erosion and other weather-related effects. Lamudi also listed some things to think about such as the impact of natural calamities that can determine how long your property will last, the extent of your ownership, accessibility, the possibility of renting it out, and how much it would cost you to maintain the property.

It is also imperative to do some homework if you're considering buying and living in the coastal area. Try getting information from local councils on flood history in their property locations as well as risk maps.
