"Wonder Woman" is one of the most-anticipated upcoming superhero flicks. Compared to male-led, stand alone hero movies that are numerous, solor female superhero moves are quite rare. Also, Wonder Woman carries with a seventy year old legacy of female strength, intelligence and power.
In an article published by The Daily Beast, the creative minds behind the movie are none-other-than husband-and-wife team David and Meredith Finch.
The site's Hugh Ryan recalled that David, a recognized artist with awarded illustrations, has a history of drawing "nearly pornographic versions" of women while his wife, has written comics as well as created "highly-sexualized Wizard of Oz spin-off from a minor publisher."
Additionally, noting a recently released comic issue released last week, the writer described the output in the quote below:
"On the cover, Wonder Woman resembles a 16-year-old model doing a pee-pee dance. Her first full scene is a shower sequence where she's in a towel. She has ridiculous mood swings. Without any evidence or provocation, she attacks Swamp Thing-and then gets beaten in the only fight she has in the issue. Thankfully, Aquaman is there to save the situation and give her a pep talk, while she clutches a teddy bear. Her biggest worry isn't Cheetah or the Silver Swan, but how to achieve the proper work-life balance. There are actually two characters that talk about misogyny and the subjugation of women, but they're both evil amazons we're meant to hate."
For now, it remains to be seen how "Wonder Woman" will be portrayed in the film.
During a recent interview with Meredith and David, via IGN, the Finches to recognize that the iconic female character has a massive legacy.
"I'm trying not to look back other than being aware of the fact that she is an incredibly powerful icon for women and people everywhere," said Meredith and added: "At the end of the day, what I hope people get is a story that they can relate to and a story that they can enjoy and a story that gives them an emotional journey, that they take the emotional journey that we're sending her on with her and there's satisfaction at the end of it."
David chimed in the same sentiment: "Wonder Woman is such an institution that she will live on no matter what we do. I just hope that we can contribute to that in a positive way and, you know, do something that people look back on and say 'This did the character justice'."
