New York Listings: Co-op at 834 Fifth Avenue Now Most Expensive Listing for $120M

This 834 Fifth Avenue pad previously owned by financier John Gutfreund who passed away earlier this year is now up for sale for $120 million. According to New York Curbed, the property is now the most expensive listing in the entire New York City, and the unit is located in the building where tycoons like Rupert Murdoch and Elizabeth Arden also live.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the apartment is located on the building's seventh and eighth floors. It has over 20 rooms and has a total space of 12,000 square feet. John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens, one of the listing agents of the property, said that the duplex is one of the largest apartments in Fifth Avenue, and it has been owned by Mr. Gutfreund and his wife Susan since the 1980s.

The master bedroom has an astounding 1,600-square-foot space, and it has its own dressing room and sitting room. There are also other three bedrooms inside the apartment.

The entrance gallery features soaring 24-foot high ceilings and a grand marble staircase. The gallery opens to the 50-foot living room that has two fireplaces and multiple windows which overlooks Central Park.

The stunning dining room also offers park views, and there is also a large butler's pantry with walk-in steel safe for storing silver. Other over-the-top amenities include a wine cellar.

It was reported that no recent additions and renovations have been done to the place. Considering that the family owned the property for more than 30 years, new owners may want to upgrade it. However, the listing agent seems sure that the new owner will surely appreciate the designs of the place and would want to preserve what is already there.

Gutfreund was the former Salomon Brothers chief, and he died in March at the age of 86.
