Which Colors of Bedsheets are Prone to Attracting Bed Bugs?

Do you know that some colors of bed sheets tend to be more attractive to bed bugs? Here is some information as to the colors that you need to avoid if you don't want to deal with these pests.

According to a new study that was recently published online in the Journal of Medical Entomology, researchers found out that bed bugs prefer to thrive in sheets that are black or red.

"We originally thought the bed bugs might prefer red because blood is red and that's what they feed on. However, after doing the study, the main reason we think they preferred red is because bed bug themselves appear red, so they go to these harborage because they want to be with other bed bugs," study co-star Corraine McNeill said.

Black was proven to be the second most common color that bed bugs love to thrive in. The scientists who conducted the study are somewhat convinced that this is because bed bugs naturally seek darkness.

According to Newsweek, these pets are nocturnal and are prone to hiding in the corners of mattresses, pillows and nooks before they come out to hunt for blood.

"Insects use visual cues for a wide variety of behaviors including, but not limited to, recognizing hosts, finding mates, ovipositing and seeking shelter. The visual cues are often based on the perception of colors," the researchers noted in their study.

Meanwhile, bed bugs seem to dislike sheets in green and yellow color. After all, they resemble the bright-lit areas that insects typically want to avoid.

If you are always using red and black sheets, now is the best time to get rid of them. After all, no one wants to go through all of the trouble of dealing with bed bugs and spending so much money on getting yourself and your house disinfected.
