Fans of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) are set to see a historic Royal Rumble come 2015 with the rumored return of Sting in the ring. Talks have been going around that the famous wrestler, also known for being the franchise of WWE's ex-competitor World Championship Wrestling (WCW), will come back on TV to fight on the show in preparation for a new storyline.
"RAW," one of WWE's regular shows has been suffering from very low ratings the past few months, noted Inquisitr. Almost always when ratings suffer, the solution of the corporation is to bring Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon back on screen, which worked most of the times.
However, Inquisitr said that the 67-year old is not too keen to be on TV anymore considering his age. He "reportedly hates the idea of having old guys appear on his television show." Without this option, the company is currently exploring the idea of putting Stephanie McMahon and Triple H back.
The duo's group called, The Authority, recently lost at the Survivor Series against John Cena and his team. The loss resulted to them getting booted out the show as one of the stipulations in the "Survivor Series" contract.
Fans are betting that Triple H may try to get himself and Stephanie reinstated by approaching John Cena. And John Cena might accede to the request with the condition that Triple H wins a match against Sting, which may happen in "WrestleMania 31."
Inquistr said that Sting is already in talks with WWE for a six-date deal. With Sting present, more fans are expected to watch the show. And as ratings go up, his contract may be extended.
While the extent of Sting's presence on the show remains unclear, it seems that the former WCW star was already christened with a new nickname, "The Vigilante Sting," according to Wrestling Rumors.
In "Survivor Series 2014," Sting made his first appearance in WWE, helping Dolph Ziggler fight The Authority. It seems that the corporation is going for an angle that has him facing the consequences of his actions then, thus the reason for the rumored match against Triple H.
With a possible set-up to the weeks after "WrestleMania" that could bring The Authority back in power in "Royal Rumble," Sting's scheduled appearances may also include this big event.
It looks like WWE is determined to get the ratings up before "WrestleMania 31" happens. With the challenge at hand, fans of the show could expect other big names to grace the weekly shows leading up to the big event next year.
Other than Sting, other rumors have mentioned The Rock, The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan to be among those tapped to make a come back.
