‘The Walking Dead’ Season 5 Spoilers: Kim Dickens Cast in TWD Spinoff ‘Cobalt’

"The Walking Dead" is currently in hiatus before its return to television screens on February, but its upcoming spinoff series "Cobalt" is continuing its progress as it announced its female lead in Kim Dickens, Hit Flix reported.

Dickens, known for her role in "Gone Girl," has been cast in the role of Nancy Tomkins. Nancy is a guidance counselor, a mother of two, and reportedly a "girl next door with an edge."

Rumors have it that the show, codenamed "Cobalt," will be taking place during the same time as "The Walking Dead," but in a different part of the country. Recent rumors have reportedly stated that the upcoming spinoff will be set in Los Angeles and might feature cameos by the original "The Walking Dead" cast, according to Hit Flix.

Dickens will be joining Cliff Curtis from "Trauma," who will play Sean Cabrera, a divorced teacher, the site noted. Her children will be played by Frank Dillane from "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and Alycia Debnam Carey from "Into the Storm."

Dillane will play Nancy's troubled son Nick who is "too old to stay home, but too scared to flee", while Carey will play Nancy's level-headed daughter Ashley, whose "ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother's failures," according to Variety.

Dickens, Curtis, and company will also be working with "The Walking Dead" executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, and Robert Kirkman, with Dave Erickson as executive producers, co-creator, showrunner and co-writer of the pilot episode alongside Kirkman.

As for "The Walking Dead," AMC has released behind the scenes photos revisiting the first half of the fifth season of the show, according to Comic Book. Fans will be able to see stars Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs, Steven Yeun, Normal Reedus, Emily Kinney and more.

In a recent Reddit AMA or "Ask Me Anything", Reedus also hinted about the show and talked about his character Daryl Dixon after he was asked by a fan on how crazy the show will become when it returns to the screen, according to MStarz.

Reedus replied with, "Well duh. There's some crazy stuff coming, like crazy crazy." When pressed for more information, Reedus just claimed, "Like, like... like 74 crazies."

Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, and showrunner Scott Gimple, also recently commented on Seth Gilliam's character, Father Gabriel Stokes, according to MStarz. The two commented on Father Gabriel's cowardice and how he is becoming a liability to the group, saying that the characters know he is a coward and endangered the lives of Michonne and Carl. However, there may just be enough humanity in Rick to spare him.

There has been no word yet on the expected release of "Cobalt." However, fans can still look forward to "The Walking Dead" when it returns with the second half of its fifth season come Feb. 8 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
