"Doctor Who" fans will be pleased to know that Jenna Coleman will be sticking around for the series' next season, despite persistent rumors that her character was finally saying goodbye.
The 28-year-old actress plays the role of Clara Oswald, the assistant of Peter Capaldi's Doctor.
According to Metro UK, Capaldi said he was "excited and delighted" that his co-star would be staying on for the 9th season of the series.
"Jenna is obviously in all of next series," said Steven Moffat, the showrunner of the hit BBC One show.
Coleman was originally planning on leaving the show at the end of 2014 but has been persuaded to stay on, wrote The Mirror UK.
"It's wonderful, I get a whole another series of stories with the Doctor and I think for me, I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved," commented the actress.
She added: "There is so much more to do. I think they have finally reached a point where they really understand each other."
The show's lead actor, Capaldi also chimed in saying, "I am thrilled, I really am. Jenna has been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with. As a new person coming onto the show she has been fantastic and I was so excited and delighted when she finally decided to stay."
The actress joined the series in 2012 and expressed earlier uncertainty if she would continue on with the sci-fi drama. The actress kept everyone guessing if she was staying or going right up to the Christmas special.
The new series begins filming in January Jenna, via NY Daily News said: "The arrival of the Twelfth Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change." She added: "So I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up."
In this year's Christmas episode, fans saw the dynamic duo of Clara Oswald and the Doctor reunited in the realm of dreams. The space and time traveling pair faced near-certain destruction from "dream crab" monsters, reported The Telegraph UK.
Coleman and Capaldi will star in the 9th Series. The Christmas Day Special revealed in its end credits that "Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman will return in The Magician's Apprentice."
