Sony Entertainment executives recently announced that they decided to change the release date of their upcoming "Angry Birds" film, moving it two months earlier to its new release date of May 20, 2016, IGN reported.
The "Angry Birds" film was set for an original release date of July 1, 2016. However, the schedule would have had the film clash with the upcoming releases by DreamWorks Animation and Warner Bros. with "The BFG" and "Tarzan," respectively.
Despite the new release date announced, there has been no news on when a trailer for the film will possibly be released within the next year or on 2016.
The script for the "Angry Birds" film is being penned by "The Simpsons" writer Jon Vitti and will be co-directed by animators Fergal Reilly from "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and Clay Kaytis from "Frozen."
Jason Sudeikis from "Saturday Night Live" will be voicing the Red bird, Josh Gad will be the Yellow bird Chuck, Danny McBride will be Bomb and Bill Hader will play the evil pigs. Maya Rudolph will voice Matilda and Dinklage will be The Mighty Eagle, according to Mashable.
Others who are reported to be lending their voice to the film will be Latin musician Romeo Santos, Cristela Alonzo, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Killian Bell and YouTube duo Smosh consisting of Anthony Padilla Ian Andrew Hecox, according to Variety.
Producer John Cohen claimed that he was extremely proud of the cast, complimenting the "all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent," according to Variety.
"These are some of the funniest people out there today," he stated. "We're thrilled to have them all on board."
The "Angry Birds" film is based on the hit mobile game of the same name by Rovio Entertainment, which spawned a kids' television franchise, several variations of the original game, merchandise, theme parks and crossovers, according to Pocket-Lint.
The original game, which celebrated its fifth birthday this year, was first released on Dec. 10, 2009 for iOS devices before its popularity led to cross-platform sequels and several titles and crossovers.
Throughout the years, there have been 12 titles and crossovers under "Angry Birds," with 2010's "Seasons," 2011's "Rio" and 2012's "Space," "Bad Piggies" and "Star Wars." In 2013, Rovio released "Friends," "Star Wars II" and "Go!," while 2014 saw the release of "Epic," "Stella" and the most recent release of "Transformers" in October.
Rovio also claimed that "Angry Birds" has been downloaded 2.5 billion times by around 1.7 billion users around the world, leading to over 600 billion birds being flung across the 150 billion stars across all the games.
