‘Spectre’ Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Idris Elba Responds to Being the Next James Bond

The Sony Entertainment cyber attack put Idris Elba's name on the list of possible actors to take up the role of James Bond, and now the actor has something to say to all his supportive fans, Daily Mail reported.

The British actor posted a selfie on his official Twitter account on Saturday and wrote, "Isn't 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I've got a shot! Happy New year people."

Elba's name was first associated with the role of Agent 007 after the hacking incident that happened to Sony Entertainment which revealed that Sony exec Amy Pascal was looking at Elba to be the next Bond. Numerous fans welcomed him for the role and greeted the rumors with a positive response.

However, there were some who claimed that Elba wasn't fit for the role of super spy simply because of his skin color and pointed out author Ian Fleming's depiction of Bond in the likeness of actor and singer Hoagy Carmichael. Some also pointed out Bond's Scottish origins, especially after Fleming fleshed out Bond's background based on the interpretation by Scottish actor Sean Connery, according to Daily Mail.

These were the same claims made by radio show host and entertainer Rush Limbaugh, who blasted the rumors of Elba's casting and claimed Bond should be "white and Scottish," according to USA Today.

"They are suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland," Limbaugh claimed. "That's not who James Bond is."

Limbaugh admitted that it was "racist to point this out," but remained firm in his opinion despite being blasted on social media. Many Twitter users even claimed that a notable plot twist will be for Elba to get the role simple because of Limbaugh's dig.

However, Elba, Limbaugh, fans and critics will have to wait for a while to see if Elba will ever get the gig as the latest Bond film "Spectre" is still currently in production with Daniel Craig as its Bond.

Aside from Elba's casting being leaked by the Sony hacking, another thing that was leak was the script for "Spectre" and a conversation claiming that executives were not satisfied with the final act, according to Ecumenical News.

The conversation also showed that the writer was fired because of it because the top executives wanted the film to have the best ending for any James Bond film yet. This led the crew to scramble and rewrite the final act.

In between the writing though, production on the film is ongoing for its release on Nov. 6, 2015, according to Sydney Morning Herald. Sony also released a teaser statement for the film.

"A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre."

There have been no announcements made on when the trailer will be released, but Sony has confirmed the return of cast members Ralph Fiennes as M, Ben Whishaw as Q, and Naomie Harris as Moneypenny. Joining them will be Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci and more.
