As the alleged date of te much-awaited fight of the decade looms, predictions on the dream match manned all avenues of the boxing empire. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are rumored to smack punches on each other on May 2, 2015 and everyone is excited about the outcome of the clash.
But it seems as though Pacman isn't as worried as everyone as he confirms his attendance as one of the judges in the upcoming Miss Universe beauty pageant come January in Miami, Florida.
The boxing super star will be rambling in an unfamiliar route for a while before going to the boxing ring early next year as he becomes the seventh Filipino to serve as judge at the Miss Universe beauty pageant.
Bob Arum tells The Telegraph that, "The only thing we're planning with Pacquiao (early in 2015) is that he's going to be a judge at one of these beauty contests - Miss World or Miss Universe, the one in Miami, in January." The boxing promoter most likely refers to Miss Universe as Miss World just concluded earlier this month.
Pacquiao joins six other Filipinos who serve as judge in the entire history of the pageant "after noted politician Carlos P. Romulo and former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz (in 1974 in Manila, Philippines); fashion designer Josi Natori (in 1989 in Cancun, Mexico); singer Kuh Ledesma (in 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA); Filipino media mogul Emilio Yap (in 1994 in Manila, Philippines); and Lea Salonga (in 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil)", The Gulfnews reports.
Pacquiao may be relaxing a bit not because he isn't worried about Mayweather, but because Coach Freddie Roach's schedule is pretty loaded at the onset of 2015. Arum said that his plans for Pacquiao in 2015 have to make allowances for "Freddie Roach's schedule (for Pacquiao).
He has Zhou Shiming March 7 fighting for a title. Then he has Miguel Cotto and he's got to schedule his fight, probably May 2. So Manny will be either April or June", Arum tells The Telegraph.
Also, Bob Arum thinks that May 2 may not be the best time for Pacquiao-Mayweather fight as it will be disrespectful to the Mexicans. He told The Telegraph, "May 2, that Cinco De Mayo weekend, is a Mexican holiday. It is a big Mexican-American holiday. It's a fight date being talked about for Mayweather, Pacquiao, even Cotto, but they're not Mexicans or even Mexican-Americans."
Anyway, the dream fight is still a long way off and so much can change in a span of several months; but as long as Pacquiao and Mayweather are committed to the fight, it will most likely happen in 2015. Meanwhile, let's get our attention psyched for the Miss Universe in January as the celebrated boxer will try to show how good a beauty pageant judge he is.
