Ultimate Fighting Championship's decision to sign Phil "CM Punk" Brooks to a contract did not sit well to most UFC fighters. Add Jon Jones to that list as the UFC light heavyweight champion also criticized CM Punk.
Jones, who is one of the biggest mixed martial arts stars and one of the highest-earning UFC fighters, said that the promotions' decision to sign CM Punk is unfair to those who are working hard just to get a chance to fight inside the UFC Octagon.
"I just think it's unfair for the people who have been working their tails off to earn this opportunity," Jones said via MMA Fighting. "That's why I really hope UFC gives him a real opponent so we can watch him get knocked out."
Instead of CM Punk, Jones said UFC should have given the slot to fighters, who have been "training their tails off" and "giving up everything" to be lined up among the best mixed martial artists in the world.
"These guys have no money and they're training their tails off, giving up everything to be a fighter," Jones said of budding MMA fighters. "Living in the gym, eating turkey and peanut butter, bare minimum to chase this dream and then a superstar like him just gets to jump into the UFC just because he knows the right people and has a name."
But while CM Punk's UFC entry did not sit well with Jones, the UFC superstar said it also has good effect as it will bring more attention because it will attract more fans, especially those who followed CM Punk's career in World Wrestling Entertainment, where he was one of the biggest attractions.
Aside from Jones, Nate Diaz also took a swipe at UFC after signing CM Punk, but MMA veteran Cole Miller recently defended the former WWE superstar.
"I think he'll do very well," Miller said of CM Punk via MMA Fighting. "I don't think he's trying to make a 10-year career out of this. But he's going to shake things up, whoop some ass and prove a lot of people wrong. I expect him to do very well against whoever they put up against him."
