With the Samsung Galaxy S6 release but a few months away, consumers looking to upgrade their phones have a big question to mull over -- should I wait for S6 or go for the newest model available, the S5?

As the Samsung Galaxy S5 turns 9 months old, here's a quick round up for users who are currently on the fence about which phone is right for them.

Samsung Galaxy S5

The Galaxy S5 was released April of 2014. It sports a 5.1-inch display (1020 x 1920 pixels) that utilizes a durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone is also equipped with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB/ 32 GB of internal storage, 2,800 mAh capacity and a water resistant feature that holds up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Based on reviews, namely by TechRadar, the phone has got a great display and screen quality, long-lasting battery life and is quite powerful. However, points against the Galaxy S5 include its rather "cheap" looking design, unnecessary heart rate monitor as well as a noted "slow background de-focus."

Samsung Galaxy S6

Time and time again, we've heard about Samsung's "Project Zero," it's attempt to completely redesign the flagship Galaxy S line with the upcoming Galaxy S6.

Per Phone Arena, the Galaxy S6 could be as ground breaking as the changes made by Apple with its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The Galaxy S6 is expected to use a SuperAMOLED screen, possibly a larger 5.5-inch display, a Quad HD (1440 x 2560) display, along with a metal design currently being used by Samsung in some of its new devices.

With regards to what's under the hood, expect an Android 5.0 pre-programmed device, use of the Snapdragon 808 or 810, expendable storage as well as a what some say will be 3 GB of RAM.

Overall

For those who don't need to have the latest, sleekest and most sophisticated device, the Galaxy S5 is an excellent phone that you can get with a lock-in contract at an affordable price. The core pros of the S5 make it a great smartphone that can keep up with you regardless of your lifestyle.
