Fans of the "Star Wars" franchise are eagerly waiting for the next trilogy under J.J. Abrams' direction. The director is famous for plucking unknown actors and giving them major roles in his films. Word is out that Abrams has once again done this and cast three Indonesian actors into the seventh "Star Wars" movie.
According to Twitchfilm, Indonesian actors Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman are among those included in "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens." While the three may not have worldwide fame, they are pretty popular in Indonesia.
However, no official announcement from the actors, their representatives, or from the production side have confirmed this news. As such, it is not yet clear what role the three actors would play in the movie.
While the upcoming movie's plot is covered in secrecy, director J.J. Abrams have already set his mind to lessen the use of computer-generated effects in the film. In a story by The Hollywood Reporter, Abrams mentioned that his new film would rely heavily on practical effects instead of CGI, which is what George Lucas did with the three prequel trilogy.
Boba Fett Fan Club reported that cinematographer Daniel Mindel would be shooting the whole movie on 35mm film.
With this direction, it's no surprise that the three -- Uwais, Rahman and Ruhian -- have been chosen to join the cast. Uwais played the lead role in the Gareth Evans martial arts films, "Raid" and "Raid 2." Ruhian also starred alongside Uwais in the two movies. Rahman, on the other hand, was known for his role in the sequel as The Assassin.
Aside from acting, the three are also known martial artists, which they have used heavily in the films.
Both films have been lauded for their amazing and well-choreographed fight scenes, noted the Telegraph. With the three actors on board, "Star Wars" fans could expect a lot of hand-to-hand combat in the upcoming movie as opposed to the CGI-made fight scenes.
Aside from the Indonesian actors, British actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers would also be joining the cast, reported Refinery29. No word is out yet as to what role the new actress would play in the film. However, The Hollywood Reporter speculates that Richardson-Sellers could take on the role of a young mixed-race woman from the line of Jedi Knight Ben Kenobi.
