'X-Men Apocalypse' Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Channing Tatum Confirmed as Gambit; Own Movie Set for 2016

Channing Tatum has revealed the release date of the highly-anticipated Gambit film.

According to E! Online, the "22 Jump Street" star is set to portray a lesser-known member of the X-Men in the persona of "Gambit," whose alter ego is professional thief and gambler with special powers Remy Etienne LeBeau, as confirmed by X-Men producer, Lauren Shuler Donner in May 2014.

Like Gambit, the 34-year-old actor is also from the South -- being born in Cullman, Alabama -- making him the perfect choice for the role, Donner explained.

"Well, you know, he's a rogue-Channing-he's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. And he can handle the action-we all know that! And he's got a really good heart," she added.

Since this announcement, fans of the actor, as well as the popular Marvel franchise, had been watching out for the revelation of the film's release date.

Now, Tatum himself has revealed the most awaited announcement via Twitter on Monday, where he hinted about his next big film's release date.

"How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?" he wrote, obviously referring to his upcoming character who hails from the southern community of Cajun in Louisiana.

Tatum's Tweet on the movie's release date was confirmed by Fox Studios, sending fans of the actor and the famous Marvel comic character in frenzy, says a more recent report from E! Online.

Gambit, who first appeared in the early 1990s comics "Uncanny X-Men #266," is a mutant who has control over kinetic energy and can transform anything into an explosive, People explained.

Because of his addiction and uncanny ability in gambling, the X-Men member decides to make use of playing cards as his signature weapon.

Gambit was first portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in the 2009 film adaptation of X-Men, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

Tatum explained that he does not intend to contradict Kitsch's take on the character but explained that he would like to give his own interpretation to the card-throwing character.

"I actually like his Gambit but I've always lived in and around the Cajun people, and I would've liked to have seen...Gambit was always like the woman loving, cigarette smoking, drinking-you know he was the punk rock of all the superheroes," he said.

According to Deadline.com, Robocop writer Josh Zetumer wrote the script for the new Gambit film based on a treatment penned by longtime Marvel scribe Chris Claremont.
