After six months of dating, actors Ian Somerhalder, 36, and Nikki Reed, 26, are engaged.
While there have been reports that the couple are serious about each other, the news came as a surprise, especially for Somerhalder's ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev, 26.
HollywoodLife reports that Dobrev is "devastated" over the news. "She can't believe this is all happening so fast," said an insider to the publication.
"She is completely shocked. She heard the news from mutual friends and can only shake her head in disbelief. She new Ian and Nikki were into each other but she never thought in a million years they would get married this quickly! It's a tough pill to swallow," added the source.
According to the insider, "Nina will put on a brave face and say all the right things. But inside it's killing her."
Sources of People said the actors are "so happy!" The site further noted that during the recent Golden Globes parties, it cannot be denied that the pair only had eyes for each other.
Dobrev, who was also present that the Globes event, stayed beside friends Jessica Szohr and Lea Michele and tried her best to steer clear of her ex and his new fiance.
"Nina avoided Ian and Nikki like the plague," claimed a source to HollywoodLife in a separate interview. "She stayed surrounded by some friends and kept to the opposite side of the party."
The insider commented on how in love Nikki and Ian were, something that "Nina couldn't help but notice."
"At one point Nina and Nikki narrowly avoided each other heading to the ladies room. It looked as though Nina waited till she knew the coast was clear," added the source to the publication.

Social media has also been abuzz with tweets from members who had their heart set on a Nina-Ian reconciliation.
One twitter member was so emotional she declared that life is over. "Well. Life is over. Apparently @iansomerhalder is engaged:( damn u Nikki reed."
"I wish Ian Somerhalder was engaged to Nina Dobrev, not Nikki Reed!" reacted Twitter user KP who still believed "The Vampire Diaries" co-stars would get back together.
As fans react to the news, one thing is for sure, Nikki and Ian are incredibly happy.
