'Power Rangers' Movie Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Green Ranger Reveals Spoilers on Filming

Fans of the '90s superhero group, Power Rangers, have something to look forward to as it seems that production for the franchise' reboot movie is set to begin soon.

The announcement was made by none other than the actor who portrayed the Green Ranger in the TV series, Jason David Frank, according to Cinema Blend. Frank was in an interview with ComicBook.com when he confirmed the news.

"We're definitely not in a holding pattern. The movie is definitely set for this year," he noted. The actor assured that, "Everything is in place. They won't give me specific details because it's all like hush-hush."

News of the return of the world's favorite morphing teenagers to the big screen came out last year, said IGN. Franchise owner, Saban, has partnered with Lionsgate to "re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."

High hopes for the new movie were in place since the announcement was made last year. In July 2014, it was learned that producer Roberto Orci, who brought "Star Trek" and "Transformers" to the big screen, would join "X-Men: First Class" screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to build the new "Power Rangers" movie.

The team was then all set to develop the story in time for a July 22, 2016 release date.

However, Orci had to back out from the movie as conflict with "Star Trek 3" filming arose, noted Latinos Post. The producer would be writing and directing the third installment for "Star Trek" and could not commit fully to the Lionsgate project.

But in December, it was reported by The Rolling Stone that Orci has also dropped out of directing the "Star Trek 3" film, while remaining to be the producer. It's not yet known whether this new development would see Orci return to the "Power Rangers" movie production team.

Meanwhile, Jason David Frank would remain in the film. Kdramastars reported that the actor and mixed martial artist would play the role of an ex-Power Ranger tasked to train the new ones.

Talks of Liam Neeson joining the cast as the team's mentor, Zondor, has been going around too. According to Movie Pilot, rumors are saying that producers are eyeing Chloe Grace Moretz for the role of Pink Ranger and Liam Hemsworth as Red Ranger.

Jamie Chung's name has also been mentioned in some rumors, with a possible role as Yellow Ranger because of her Asian features. Meanwhile, Jack Gleeson could be offered the role of Blue Ranger.

No confirmation from the producers and actors has been made regarding their involvement in the film. Fans would just have to wait and see who makes the cut when the movie trailer comes out.
