Paris Fashion Week 2015: Male Models Flashed Penis On Runway, Too Far?

Fashion Week is known for its risque, out-of-the-box fashion trends so it'll take quite a bit to shock regular audience members. However, on Jan. 22, one designer bravely ventured into unchartered trend territory -- male nudity.

Rick Owens Menswear fall-winter 2015-2016 showcase at Paris Fashion Week definitely caused quite the stir with its penis-baring models. According to E! News, models sauntered down the runway with their intimates fully exposed.

The Guardian's Hannah Marriott wrote that the bold move included a handful of models in outfits that had peepholes. "The flash of flesh was presented subtly, in an otherwise typically dramatic, drapey collection of dark colours and loose silhouettes," described Marriott.

"As the audience gradually realised that a taboo was being broken in front of their eyes, whispers and occasional giggles rippled down the front row like a Mexican wave. It was a move which earned him the Instagram hashtag: #dickowens," she continued.

The outfits, which can only bedescribed as "ponchos with peepholes," left little to the imagination. One model in particular was dressed in a black, sleeveless, poncho-like outfit with a hemline that gave fans an unobstructed view of his entire manhood. Another wore a similar item, this time in beige with the same high-cut that exposed his crotch.

Designer Owens is definitely not a person that can be labeled as a prude. His shows have always carried a provocative theme emphasizing his boldness and unique collection. Who can forget his autumn/winter 2014 lookbook? Owens enlisted the help of S&M photographer Rick Castro to shoot his father, 93, in a collection of playful yet inspiring photos.

Similarly, his spring/summer 2014 collection also grabbed headlines when he sent a Step Dance team jamming down the runway. The Guardian recalls how the surprising show elevated the views on casting diversity in runway shows.

Other than the body-baring selection, Owens displayed other trends that included, "shorts over leggings, then shorts with pulled-up-to-the-hem socks, and then shorts over leggings over pulled-up-to-the-hem socks. Black washed-leather overcoats were soon joined by a wool duffle coat that looked like it had been splattered with blood," reports The Cut.

Owens is an American fashion designer from California. Having been married for over 20 years, Owens described the role is wife plays in his designs during an October 2014 interview.

“She’s is part of the spirit. I think people assume that she is maybe the Pierre Berge - if we’re thinking in legendary Yves Saint Laurent terms - but I think maybe she’s more of a Catherine Deneuve character of that legend. She has great inspiration and great vision. It’s not like she’s in the office every day on the computer, she’s out in the real world, researching, and bringing me things back. It’s almost like an ephemeral role. It can be so hard to define.”
