It seems that HTC is banking on the success of the HTC One M8 model that came out last year. Because now, the company which brought one of the best Android phones in 2014 is said to be coming out with a better unit this year, the HTC One M9.
According to Master Herald, the latest smartphone from HTC may be unveiled in the Mobile World Congress 2015. The unit, which is loosely called the "M9" to differentiate it from the previous years' versions, is rumored to launch along with a wearable device.
With some tech firms releasing a watch to go along with their mobile phone units is seen to be the trend nowadays, whether that device is another smartwatch or something else remains to be seen.
Since its predecessor packed powerful specifications in one unit, HTC is expected to top the last unit by outfitting the new M9 with an 8-core Snapdragon 810 that would run 2 GHz.
Talks have also mentioned 3 GB of RAM with Cat 6 LTE connectivity. The unit may also come out with the Android Lollipop OS.
Meanwhile, a report by Gizmodo has noted that the upcoming phone from HTC would probably come with a bigger display. However, reports of the screen size are conflicting. Some have mentioned a 5.2-inch display while others maintained 5.5-inches.
The M8's display screen measures 5 inches and it's possible that the company would avoid a huge jump in screen size and opt for 5.2 inches, should it upgrade.
In terms of resolution, it seems that the M9 is gunning for a better viewing experience for its users and would consider a 1080p display. On the other hand, other sources have mentioned a 2560 x 1440 resolution, which is also a big possibility.
A major consideration for smartphone users is its camera. With many other units offering a high level camera on its unit, it's time that HTC upgrades this smartphone feature so it could compete better in the market.
Word from Gizmodo is that the company is dropping its UltraPixel rear camera, which was used in the M8, in favor of a 20MP snapper. The UltraPixel camera would instead be moved into the front-facing unit, which could possibly be a hit for all selfie-lovers.
Externally, there seems to be not much difference in the hardware of the M9 from the current generation HTC One M.
In terms of price, the M8 debuted at a staggering price of $840 in 2014 for a unit with 16GB storage. It is expected that the latest unit in HTC One's M lineup would launch at around the same price.
