It seems that fans of Sony Xperia Z series would have nothing to look forward to at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2015. Reports have surfaced that the latest Xperia Z4, which many are waiting excitedly for, would not be launched in the said event.
An article in Xperia Blog noted that the latest addition to the Xperia Z series might not be released at the MWC 2015 event as previously speculated. It added that Sony, the company behind the Xperia smartphone, is instead looking at a summer launch for the new device, which is rumored to pack with a lot of exciting new specifications and features.
The blog noted that with the MWC looming near, not many leaks have come out regarding the new Z4. The only thing that was mentioned was the pitch for the new James Bond movie, "Spectre," which is not considered a leak at all.
Some argue that the company has been wary of leaks coming out after last year's incident and have tightened security measures to ensure no information comes out.
However, a leaked email from a Sony executive went around in December, reported PhoneArena. The email reportedly talked about the "Z4 phones," which were scheduled for May to November 2015 release.
If the email is true, then fans waiting for the said smartphone could definitely scratch MWC off for its launch. It seems that the Xperia Z3 would remain the company's flagship phone during the MWC.
But as the blog did not reveal its source for the launch update, it might still mean that Sony has something up its sleeve and things could change in time for the event. Otherwise, fans would have to wait until the third quarter to see if they could get their hands on a new-generation Xperia Z.
Looking back at launch history, Sony has always announced new flagship phones by the end of March.
However, AndroidPit pointed out that because the Japanese tech firm is experiencing losses in their smartphone business, Sony seems to have decided to limit the units they come out with.
Since 2013, Sony came out with a new phone device every six months. The Xperia Z came out in early 2013, Xperia Z1 in late 2013, Xperia Z2 in early 2014 and the Xperia Z3 in late 2014.
Now the company could about to break their launch trend.
However, not revealing the Xperia Z4 in the MWC does not mean that the Japanese company has nothing else interesting to show. It might just mean that the company would play up other devices exhibited at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in the said event.
