HTC One users who are eagerly waiting for the Android 5.0 Lollipop to come to their M7 and M8 units would have to wait just a bit longer before they could get their hands on the new mobile operating system. The company behind these successful Android phones has recently announced that the OS update would be late in coming to their units.
According to CNET, HTC has informed its users that the new system would not be available for download on February 1, which was the deadline set for Android 5.0 Lollipop's roll out.
The Taiwanese tech company has received the code for the update as early as Nov. 3, 2014, said a report by Tech Times. The company then told its users that the update for M7 and M8 would be available after 90 days.
However, a blog post by HTC Vice President for Product Management, Mo Versi on the company's official website, has detailed the reason why the company is delaying the update.
According to Versi, the delay is due to several issues with the system that had to be addressed on Google's end. The HTC official told M7 and M8 users that with the fixes from Google, their developers were unable to meet the 90-day goal, which ends on Feb. 1.
However, it seems that the delay was limited to select M7 and M8 users who availed of their units from network carrier partners. Tech Times noted that the delay only affected users who have a locked carrier plan in the United States and some countries.
HTC's Vice President added on his post that the company has already released the update on unlocked units bought from Google Play, as well as developer editions of the M8.
The company has not issued a specific date as to when the update would be available to locked units. But HTC has promised to release it as close to the 90-day period as possible.
Meanwhile, other Android phone users have also experienced challenges with the new update from Google. Motorola has rolled out the updates to some Moto G units purchased in India and Brazil through the company's online and retail stores, Airtel and Flipkart.
Owners in the United States would be able to access the update in phases as the company continues to check it's compatibility to all of its units worldwide.
Last Jan. 28, Android Pit reported that Google is coming out with Android 5.1 Lollipop in February, as a fix to all the bugs and glitches in the Android 5.0 version which could not be remedied by the patches they released.
