Sophie Turner has officially joined the cast of Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse," as reported by Comic Book Movie. It will be very interesting to see the redhead beauty step away from her role as Sansa Stark in the HBO hit drama, "Game of Thrones."
However, Turner revealed that her Jean Grey role wrecked her chances at another movie role, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. "I was on my way to an audition and I was getting out of the car and walking into the audition, and then my agent started ringing, and she was, like, 'Have you heard the news?' 'No. What news?' Then, she was, like, 'Check your Twitter,'" Turner told Access Hollywood.
"So, I checked it and I was just getting, like, 'Congratulations, Jean Grey.' And I was, like, [gasp of shock]," she added. "I just started crying and I messed up the whole audition because I was just, like, 'I can't speak!'"
Bryan Singer, the director of the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday evening. Turner will be joining Alexandra Shipp of "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B" and Tye Sheridan of "Mud."
Turner will be replacing Famke Janssen, Shipp will be replacing Halle Berry, and Sheridan will be replacing James Marsden, as confirmed by CBS News.
According to Cinema Blend, Oscar Isaac has been selected to take on the titular role of the mutant villain, Apocalypse.
Entertainment Weekly has also revealed that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will also be bringing back Rose Byrne's Moira MacTaggert in the franchise. MacTaggert is the CIA agent who also happened to be Professor X's love interest in "X-Men: First Class" in 2011.
Simon Kinberg, the writer of "X-Men: Apocalypse," revealed: "She's a significant character in the movie. We ended 'First Class' with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them."
Sadly, however, Kinberg would not say how her character ties into the upcoming blockbuster.
The upcoming movie will reportedly delve deeper into the lives of the original team the audience met in "First Class." The new additions to the cast will be joining Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Nicholas Hoult as Dr. Hank McCoy or Beast, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier or Professor X, and Jennifer Lawrence as Raven or Mystique.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" has already been scheduled to premiere on big screens by May 27 of 2016.
