Thankfully for fans of the Power Rangers, Lionsgate Films has teamed up with Saban Entertainment to come up with a mighty morphin' film in the near future, according to an announcement made in August of 2014, as reported by BreatheCast. However, when Roberto Orci, the original producer, decided to leave the team, fans wondered if the film would make it to theaters.
Jason David Frank, the actor who played the Green Ranger in "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" in the 1990s, confirmed that production will start this year and that the film will be released by July of 2016.
"The movie is definitely set for this year. Everything is in place," Frank told Comic Book, as reported by BreatheCast.
This news has made Power Rangers fans even more excited, including Robbie Amell of "The Flash." Amell plays the role of Firestorm in the show, and he took to Twitter to tell his fans and followers, and hopefully the movie's production staff, that he wants to take on the role of the Red Power Ranger, as reported by Movie Web.
"My childhood dream. RT @TDR1411: @KhiryHuggins @MuseZack Way too old! @RobbieAmell for Red Ranger!" he said, along with an interesting picture, as posted on his Twitter account.
Since a release date has been confirmed, it will not be long until the actual cast for the action movie will be announced. Amell just might give the Red Power Ranger role a good refresh, especially as the actor who played the Red Wild Force Ranger in 2002's "Power Rangers Wild Force," was recently arrested for allegedly stabbing a friend to death, says Time.
The 36-year-old Ricardo Medina reportedly stabbed Joshua Sutter, 36 years old, with a sword and struck him in once in the abdominal area, according to The Los Angeles Times. He was taken to the Sheriff's station of Palmdale, where he was imprisoned with a $1 million bail.
Moreover, the original cast of the "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" TV show, or whoever is left of them, is reportedly going to reunite in the Great Philadelphia Comic Con in April 3 to 5 this year, according to Master Herald. Although they are not involved together in a new Power Rangers project, their reunion is reportedly part of the promotions for the 2016 reboot.
Frank did not share any further information about the reboot. He even says that he has no idea which role he is going to get. His fans, however, would want to see him wear his green mask once again.
"I email Saban and ask them kind of what you're asking me, but they do feel that I'm going to be part of it, because they feel there's no movie, at least, without me," Frank shared.
