'Captain America 3' Plot & Rumors: Will it be 'Iron Man vs Cap' in 2016? [Watch Fan-Made Trailer]

It seems that fans of Marvel's superhero movies are in for another surprise. Rumors have circulated that a fellow Marvel hero would turn against Captain America in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" movie.

According to Master Herald, the third installment of the "Captain America" series would see the rise of Iron Man as the villain against America's first superhero. The basis for this is the comic book, which follows the said plotline.

Tony Stark would turn against his friends to earn the government's support and control, making him their enemy. This turn of events is said to be one of the major plotlines in the upcoming movie, "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

But while the films have stayed true to the comic book, Robert Downey Jr., who plays Tony Stark, has something else in mind.

A report by Movie Pilot says Downey's hinting that his Iron Man character may not turn into a villain after all. When asked if Iron Man would go against his friends, the actor cryptically said, "I wouldn't put it that way."

The "Sherlock Holmes" actor added, "The biggest question is, for Chris and for Cap, how do we bring Cap to a place where people go, 'Man, I never thought I would see such a vast change in Steve.' After you see Snowpiercer, you're like, 'I want to see a little bit of that guy.''

In the comic book, the "Civil War" story began when the government established the Superhuman Registration Act, which saw Captain America and Iron Man go against each other, detailed Fashion & Style.

Captain America championed the individual's freedom while Iron Man chose to side with the government, which was looking for control. Whether Downey's character becomes the villain or otherwise, remains to be seen in the movie.

"Captain America: Civil War" would see Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. return to reprise their roles as Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, respectively. Chadwick Boseman would join the cast as Black Panther while Frank Gillo has been cast as Brock Rumlow or Crossbones.

According to Screenrant, "The Bourne Ultimatum" actor Daniel Bruhl would also star in the upcoming Marvel movie. Rumors say that Bruhl will play a villain in the third "Captain America" movie. However, producers have not made any official statement on what role he would play.

"Captain America: Civil War" would hit theaters on May 2016.
