Android users on Sprint finally have something to rejoice about. Word is out that Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M7 users could finally get their hands on the latest operating system update by Google, Android 5.0 Lollipop, this February.
A report by AnandTech has confirmed the update's release on the said phones on February 5.
It was initially reported on the HTC official blog that the company would miss out on its 90-day internal goal to bring the update to its users, who have availed of the units with mobile carriers. The 90 days ended on Feb. 1.
At that time, Mo Versi, HTC's Vice President of Product Management has promised to users that the tech firm would do its utmost best to bring the update soon, albeit not announcing a specific date.
On Feb. 4, Versi took to micro-blogging site Twitter to announce that their company has finally fixed the glitches, which caused the delay and now the Android 5.0 Lollipop is finally coming out to select HTC One M7 users.
Versi tweeted, "Sprint HTC One (M7) Owners! We've received TA on L OS (5.0.1) and will start OTA tomorrow! Others coming soon! #HTCAdvantage"
No exact date has been mentioned when the update would arrive on HTC One M8 owners on a Sprint plan, said Android Central. However, units availed via Google Play Edition and unlocked versions are already able to download the update.
Meanwhile, Samsung loyalists under a Sprint plan would also get to experience the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update on their Galaxy S5 units on Feb. 5.
According to a report by Phone Dog, the update for Samsung S5 users would not only include Android 5.0 Lollipop but a better Voice over Wi-Fi interface as well. Additional updates would also see users bid goodbye to the Lumen tool bar.
Forbes noted that the Android 5.0 Lollipop would bring Google Material Design on Android smartphones. This enhancement would see clearer and more fluid animations and colored themes. It would also give users the power to customize the notifications they receive according to their priority and preference.
The Sprint release comes just a few days after Verizon announced Android 5.0 Lollipop update info for users of their S5 units. Many were surprised with the announcement, as Verizon is notorious for being the last to bring updates to users because of certification and security measures.
Meanwhile, AT&T and T-Mobile has not issued any statement when their users could finally access the update.
