The first trailer for "Magic Mike XXL" has just been released. Although it may have looked pretty similar with its first movie, "Magic Mike," its film-makers are promising that the new super-sized experience will be "very different," according to Screen Rant.
It was Channing Tatum, the star of the movie, who leaked the poster to fans and followers on his Twitter account. "Look, but you can't touch...until tomorrow. Tune in to @theellenshow! #MagicMikeXXL," he wrote.
Steven Soderbergh's directorial spot was filled in by Gregory Jacobs, but he is still part of the production crew as the editor and cinematographer. Plus, Jacobs was Soderbergh's assistant director for a pretty long time before he was tasked to direct the sequel, says Screen Rant.
Moreover, some of the significant characters of the first film, such as Matthew McConaughey, will not be returning. In the stead of those who opted to leave the franchise, Warner Bros. decided to take on Donald Glover of "Community", Elizabeth Banks of "The Hunger Games", and Michael Strahan of "Live with Kelly and Michael," as reported by a separate Screen Rant report.
Three years ago, "Magic Mike" surprised its audience. It was initially expected to be a vehicle for Channing Tatum to further expose his dancing prowess and muscular physique. However, it turned out to be much more than that. Although there was a lot of male stripping, it was revealed that the movie was actually partially based on the life experiences of Tatum, when he used to work as a real-life stripper.
Now, the new plot involves Mike, played by Tatum, together with the rest of the team, going on a road trip to take part in a stripper convention. He has already retired from the job, but he decides to strip one last time in Myrtle Beach.
Tatum originally wanted to include the stripper convention angle in the first movie, but Soderbergh believed then that there was enough material for that to support its own movie.
The Guardian says that the trailer first premiered on "The Ellen DeGeneres," much to the delight of the talk show's audience. It was pretty much what fans were hoping for: Tatum dances by himself, then he dances on stage with the other immensely good-looking strippers, then starts to strip.
McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer are not part of the sequel, but Tatum is still joined by Adam Rodriguez, Kevin Nash, Joe Manganiello, Gabriel Iglesias, and Matt Bomer.
