Apple MacBook Pro vs Chromebook Pixel vs Surface Book: Which is Better?

Aside from Apple's MacBook Pro, Microsoft's 2-in-1 detachable tablet and Google's Chromebook Pixel are good choices for a laptop. But buyers are confused of which one to get because all of them have powerful specs and a premium look.

In terms of display, MacBook Pro and Surface Book has a small difference in size wherein the first has 13.3-inch with a resolution of 2,560×1,600 pixels and the latter has 13.5-inch screen whose resolution is higher at 3000×2000 pixels. The smallest is the Chromebook Pixel that has 12.85-inch display and supports a resolution of 2,560×1,700 pixels. The MacBook Pro, Surface Book and Pixel has different pixel densities of 227ppi, 267ppi, and 239ppi, respectively.

Apple's laptop has an aspect ratio of 16:10 while the other two has a 3:2 aspect ratio. All of the three devices could be used for both personal and business purposes and could be connected to other peripherals.

What makes the Surface Book unique is its detachable keyboard, which makes it a laptop and tablet in one. It also has a Palm Block technology wherein you can put your hand on the screen and use a keyboard to write, the Next Digit reported.

MacBook Pro is powered by a 2.7GHz (i5-5257U) dual-core Intel Core i5 Broadwell processor with Intel Iris 6100 Graphics and 8GB built-in onboard RAM, and it also comes with an optional 16GB RAM configuration, or a 2.9GHz (i5-5287U) dual-core Intel Core i5 Broadwell processor, or a 3.1GHz (i7-5557U) dual-core Intel Core i7 Broadwell processor, and all variants are backed by 1866MHz PC3-14900 LPDDR3 SDRAM. Its 2.7GHz comes with 128GB or 256GB of storage, while the faster processor has 512GB or 1TB SSD, Neurogadget reported.

On the other hand, Chromebook Pixel is available in 32 or 64GB SSD and is equipped by an Intel Core i5 1.8GHz processor that is paired with Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 8 or 16GB DDR3 RAM.

Microsoft's Surface Book comes with two variants of Intel Skylake dual-core processors: i5-6300U (2.4 up to 3.0GHz) and i7-6600U (2.6 up to 3.4GHz), which are both backed by Intel HD Graphics 520 and support either 8 or 16GB LPDDR3 RAM. An optional Nvidia GeForce GPU in keyboard dock is also available. Different Internal storage are available with capacities 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

Both the MacBook Pro and Chromebook Pixel features a 720p front camera while the Surface Book has two cameras -- an 8MP rear camera that supports autofocus and 5MP front camera. The battery life of MacBook Pro lasts nine hours, while the other two devices could last up to 12 hours, Android Headlines reported.

The prices of the devices differ with MacBook Pro as the most expensive at $1,799 while the Chromebook Pixel costs $999 and Surface Book is tagged at $1,499.
