Daren Metropoulos, a 40-year-old investor who previously owned the Playboy Mansion, has recently bought a $148 million estate in Palm Beach in cash.
Metropoulos recently bought a 10-bedroom, 23,000-square-foot estate in Palm Beach, Florida. The mansion, which was bought in an off-market deal, cost $148 million and was paid for by Metropoulos in cash. The price makes the sale the second most expensive in Florida this year.
Metropoulos bought the mansion from the family of the late Canadian businessman William Pencer, who died in 2021, per records obtained by the Palm Beach Daily News. Metropoulos was represented by Christian Angle of Christian Angle Real Estate, while the seller was represented by Jim McCann of Premier Estate Properties, the outlet noted.
"I am pleased to carry on the tradition of conserving this gem as a true sanctuary and ensuring its classic charm and sophistication continues to endure," Metropolous said in a statement following the sale, as quoted by Mansion Global.
The $148 Million Palm Beach Estate
Known as Casa Amado, the estate features a Mediterranean Revival-style home with 10 bedrooms, a gym, and a movie room. The compound also features an outdoor pool, two cabanas, a tennis court, a theater, and a gym. In addition, the property features 225 feet of direct ocean frontage.
The estate was built for Charles A. Munn, who is an entrepreneur and a prominent member of Palm Beach society. It was later bought by the Pencers for $12.1 million in 2003.
Metropoulos' Other Real Estate Properties
Metropoulos is known for owning a range of trophy properties across the country. In 2016, he bought the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles for $100 million. Under the terms of sale, Hugh Hefner, the previous owner, will remain in the residence for the rest of his life.
"The Playboy Mansion is one of the most iconic properties in the world and the crown jewel of Holmby Hills and the platinum triangle," Metropoulos said of the purchase.
Metropoulos is also the owner of an oceanfront home in Miami Beach that he bought for $18 million in 2021.
Metropoulos is a partner in his father's investment firm Metropoulos & Co and a co-owner of BlueTriton Brands.
