Jason Voorhees, the infamous fictional masked murderer, is getting his own new video game called "Friday the 13th: The Game"
According to CNet, After receiving the go signal from "Friday the 13th" franchise creator Sean, Cunningham Game development studios Gun Media and Illfonic started a Kickstarter campaign to crowd fund the game development.
Moreover, the studio has decided not to team up with a traditional game publisher so they could retain full control over the key elements of "Friday the 13th: The Game"
"Collectively, we wanted to make certain that this game delivers the same kind of fun, brutal scares and creative kills that the franchise is known for, and didn't want to risk having to tell our story with a 'T' for Teen rating," the CNet quotes what the developers said. "We don't want that. You don't want that."
According to CNet, Kane Hodder the man behind Jason Voorhees in 4 of the 12 "Friday the 13th" films will repeat his role for the game.
Before getting Cunningham's blessing, the game was already being developed under the name "Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp". Now that the developers have been granted rights, the team is now using the work on Summer Camp as a base for the "Friday the 13th: The Game"
"Friday the 13th: The Game" will be multiplayer platform for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. According to GameSpot, one player gets to controls Jason Voorhees, while the rest will take the role of camp counselors who will try to survive the night in a "semi-open world" setting on Camp Crystal Lake, just like it was in the film.
The Kickstarter is asking for $700,000 and if the Kick starter does well, Gun Media will consider coming up with a single-player campaign mode. "Friday the 13th: The Game" is scheduled for release in 2016. Will you be gutsy enough to play against an infamous slasher?
