A new rumor has surfaced on Monday, saying that Xiaomi Mi5 will be equipped with Qualcomm's latest mobile chip, the Snapdragon 820. The upcoming smartphone will also likely feature a fingerprint scanner. It can be recalled that there has been numerous reports regarding the specifications of the smartphone. Mobile experts have described the latest details about the device as "head-turning specs," a report from Tech Times said.
"A few months ago, rumors about the Mi 5 with the Snapdragon 820 rolling out in 2015 made rounds on the Internet, but they were put to rest when Qualcomm seemed like it won't be producing the powerful chipset on time, not to mention that Xiaomi doesn't intend to turn to other chip makers such as MediaTek and doesn't have plans to settle with the Snapdragon 810.Manufacturers turned away from Snapdragon 810 because of overheating issues," the report has noted.
According to the report, Xiaomi's decision to select the Snapdragon 820 chipset over the Snapdragon 810 is basically to avoid the overheating problems of the smartphones. Samsung, a South-Korea mobile maker, has also decided to pass up the Snapdragon 810 to avoid the common problem in their devices.
Xiaomi will reportedly offer the Mi5 flagship smartphone with two internal storage variants, 16 GB and 32 GB, though it is not known whether it will be further expandable via a MicroSD card. The handset will feature a 16 MP rear camera along with an 8 MP front-facing camera and will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. Other expected features are a USB Type-C connector and fingerprint scanner.
MNR Daily reports that the phone's display is expected to feature a 5.2-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels.
