As the deadline for the NFL trade is drawing near, the San Francisco 49ers are still struggling to find a good trade for tight end Vernon Davis. Last season was a disaster for Davi,s and his performance this season is far from positive. The man only had 12 catches in five games and has not logged in a touchdown.

NFL analyst Ian Rapoport opined that Davis' future with the 49ers is unclear as the team is now playing under a new coach. The aging Davis may still be viewed as an offensive option, but he is an old player who is due a high salary and with a diminishing skill set. Trading him is reportedly probably the best thing to do. The problem, however, is that no team in the NFL will trade for an inconsistent tight end who is already near the end of his career.

While many doubt Davis' abilities to become of great significance this season as his performance continues to decline, a number of observers see Davis as a good fit for other teams, namely Denver Broncos and the Green Bay Packers.

"Because he's been so disappointing over the past two seasons, it's easy to forget that in 2013, Davis was one of the NFL's most effective tight ends with a loud 52/850/13 line and 16.5 yards per reception," Joe Soriano of Fansided wrote.

Davis may be on a downhill skid, but he can be a suitable option for Denver Broncos as a short-term, band-aid solution if they want to be Super Bowl contenders this season.

Evan Massey of Forbes believes Davis' presence can greatly benefit the Packers. Davis can become a cost-effective offensive option as he can be utilized to full effect if he is paired with Packers' Aaron Rodgers, who is considered one of the best quarterbacks ever.

"Davis would be catching passes from one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game and in a season where more weapons are welcomed due to the Jordy Nelson injury," Massey wrote.
