An avid "The Walking Dead" fan is accused of killing his friend after binge watching the hit AMC series on Oct. 22, Thursday.
Damon Perry, 23, from New Mexico allegedly beat Christopher Paquinn to death after thinking that his friend started "to change into a zombie," reports KOB4 News. Both men were reportedly drunk when the incident happened. Bystanders dialed 911 to get the police's attention when the 23-year-old suspect threatened people with a knife as he ran around the apartment complex.
When the police arrived, the irate man had already been subdued by maintenance workers in the vicinity, according to a report by Variety. The officers found Paquinn, also 23 years old, dead in the apartment. He reportedly sustained wounds caused by punches and kicking. Police officers also divulged that the suspect hit the victim with a guitar and a microwave oven.
Perry was arrested and brought to the Grants Police Department in Albuquerque. When questioned by the authorities about the incident, he asserted that Paquinn transformed into a zombie and tried to bite him so he had to defend himself. The suspect is charged with an open count of murder and now being detained at the Cibola County Detention Center.
In an interview with KOB4 News, Sgt. Moses Marquez mentioned some details in "The Walking Dead" that could be attributed to the crime scene. According to the officer, if people have been following the TV series they would know that "the only way to kill a zombie is to attack it in its head." When they arrived in the apartment, Paquinn was found with a knife stabbed to his head.
When asked about Perry's account regarding the incident, Sgt. Marquez said he believed the suspect's story. He said Perry was genuine as he was retelling how he thought his friend had transformed into a zombie, but the hallucinations were mainly due to his inebriation. The police officer added that in his entire 13 years of service, he has never encountered an incident like this one.
