In one of its real estate news items, RealtorMag shared the information that through a survey conducted by Realtor®, the  official website of the National Association of REALTORS, the home design preference of buyers is now shifting from Hollywood-inspired (or the "look, but don't touch elegance") type of homes to more natural and comfortable spaces. The said survey is a part of the "Get This Look" promotion, wherein visitors were asked to vote for their favorite type of décor.

Move adds that this promotion offers an opportunity to win a $45,000 home make-over by television host and lifestyle expert, Jennifer Farrell. Out of the more than 10,000 votes generated, three styles stood out. Inviting homes got 23 percent, followed by the rustic homes at 22 percent, and the beachside charm type of homes at 21 percent.

Farrell says, "We are seeing a shift in home design trends - leaving behind the glitz and glam for a more natural look - whether that may be a rugged barn with many textures or a serene beach-like feel. Today's style reflects today's lifestyle and we've found that having a space for entertaining family and friends all year round is the number one trend."

Below is a more detailed description of the top three style preferences:

1.    Inviting

This type of living space is pictured as a welcoming atmosphere that includes fun barware, plenty of seating, and a gather-worthy kitchen that can serve as the life of the party.

2.    Rustic

This look of the house is for those who prefer natural elements such as wood, stone, water and light. This design style usually incorporates organic materials from the outside and inside for a perfect balance.

3.    Beachside Charm

This design has a relaxed and casual feel, and is airy and breezy. It often incorporates terra cotta tile, patio umbrellas, sundecks, and scattered shells for the home owners and their visitors to kick back and truly feel like they are miles away from the hustle and bustle of life's daily pressures.

The survey also showed that the fourth preferred design style is the Regal (where fine fabrics and antiques are used), followed by Urban, eclectic Mid-Century Modern, and the slinky and engaging Earthy. The design which finished last was the soft satin and candlelight ambiance found in glamour designs.
