The future of "Longmire" is still up in the air, as Netflix has not yet issued an official statement on the show's renewal status. Several fans have already started on campaigning for the online streaming service giant to renew the series for Season 5. What are the chances that "Longmire" will be renewed for Season 5?
"Longmire" received overwhelming support from fans and viewers even though the series was cancelled after three seasons on A&E. While most shows are often cancelled due to poor ratings or controversial episodes, such wasn't the case with the crime drama.
Yahoo! TV stated that A&E decided to cancel "Longmire" after its three-season run "because the series found its largest audience amidst a specialized (re: older) demographic." Fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief after online streaming giant, Netflix, decided to pick up the series.
Now, fans are facing yet the same feat on the show's future, as Christian Today stated that Netflix still has not issued a renewal order for "Longmire" Season 5. Several fans have started petitioning for Netflix to renew the series for another season, including an online event, which was started to raise awareness about the show's fan base.
Fans have also called on others to give the show a five-star rating on Netflix and even go as far as calling the site's customer service in order to boost the show's standing. In an earlier interview with the show's executive producer, John Coveny, he revealed that when Netflix decided to pick up "Longmire" after it was cancelled on A&E, they were looking forward to doing eight, nine or ten seasons of the show.
"We threw a lot of knives in the air in Season 3, and we've caught a lot of them in Season 4," he said. "Realistically, we have Seasons 8, 9 and 10 in our heads; it's a rich world and we're really just beginning to scratch the surface of it."
