An anime adaptation of the hit spin-off series 'Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt' manga has now been confirmed!

Crunchy Roll reported that the portal site for the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, Gundam.info has confirmed that a new anime adaptation of Yasuo Ohtagaki's Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt manga is now in the works. A teaser site for the new anime adaptation was also opened. There are no specifics yet about how or when the anime will be released.

The manga is set during the One Year War period of the Universal Century, and the story will center on the fierce battle of Federation Troops and Zeon Forces in the "Thunderbolt Sector," in what was once Side 4 "Mua." The "Thunderbolt Sector" is a shoals zone composed of the debris of destroyed space colonies. The metal debris in this place produce electrical discharges, and because of this, it is named as the "Thunderbolt Sector."

An article in Forbes stated that the anime adaptation of 'Mobile Suit Gundam Thuderbolt' manga is a "tad premature" considering the fact that it is not the most requested Gundam franchise to have an anime adaptation. According to the article, the most requested Gundam manga to have an anime version is the 'Crossbone Manga.'

The article from Forbes also mentioned that some of the Gundam models in the 'Mobile Suit Gundam Thuderbolt' are "being overpowered to the point of goofiness" especially the 'Atlas Gundam' that is being piloted by Io Fleming.

The 'Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt' manga features mobile suits and various mechas in the One Year War period of the Universal Century that was arranged and modified by Ohtagaki himself. The spin-off manga has been serialized in Shogakukan's bi-weekly magazine, Big Comic Superior, since March 2012. The latest 6th tankobon volume is scheduled to be released in Japan this Friday, Oct. 30.
