The Apple TV upgrade, which is said to be a home-entertainment hub, is about to be released really soon, but not everybody is ready for the new set-top box. Reviewers are a bit skeptical about the new product making its way to consumers too early.
Apple TV can pack a lot of punch. It has a big potential to do more than an ordinary set-top box. For one, the new TV OS (operating system) will be able to handle hundreds of apps that can be developed for the system. Currently, it already contains several remarkable apps such as Airbnb, QVC and Gilt, which make the device an online shopping tool aside from being a multimedia player.
One interesting feature of the TV device is the incorporation of Siri, the smart assistant. Siri can help a user find specific shows, or even something in general that interests a user. Siri can take a voice command and look for the desired shows and titles.
However, if Apple TV users need to find a movie, a user needs the remote to slide and tap one letter at a time via the on-screen keyboard. All 26 letters of the alphabet are on a single line, which takes a lot of time to finish a word. The previous grid style offers less travel time from letter to letter, Yahoo! Tech reported.
Meanwhile, Amazon has banned the Apple TV from its e-commerce site. The community sees the move as rivalry, but according to Amazon's CEO, Jeff Bezos, it relates to compatibility issues. Bezos added that the Apple TV, as well as Google's Chromecast, are not easily compatible with its Prime Video streaming service.
Apple TV's popular selling feature is its remote control. The remote box offers a glass touchpad on one end and a user can simply swipe and tap to navigate around. A user does not need to take their eyes off the screen. It's like a big iPhone, The Wall Street Journal reported.
