Only a sliver of the global smartphone user demographic use iPhones and other non-Android powered devices. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), Android phone users comprise the 82.8% of all smartphone users in the world. Samsung ranks the top Android phone brand even when its flagship phones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, continue to struggle with its sales for this year.
In a smartphone world dominated by Android, the device to beat is surprisingly not a product of the South Korea-based tech firm. Launched in October 2013, the LG Google Nexus 5 was deemed the best Android smartphone well until the late 2014, according to the Indian Express. It set very high standards for the rest of Android phone manufacturers.
However, LG failed to capitalize on the success of the Nexus 5; instead, the firm released the poorly received LG Nexus 6. In an effort to reassert itself as the champion of all Android smartphones, LG is set to unleash the Nexus X5 in the coming weeks.
That said, Samsung seems to have a Nexus killer with the upcoming Galaxy A9. Rumored to be launched in November 2015, observers say that the Galaxy A9 is Nexus 5X's most direct competitor.
Here's a closer look at the basic specs of both phones, as enumerated by Boosh:
LG Google Nexus 5X
Price: $370
Display: 5.2 inch screen with Full HD resolution
OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Processor: Snapdragon 808
RAM: 2GB
Camera: 12.3 megapixels with laser autofocus
Samsung Galaxy A9
Price: $500
Display: 5.5 inch screen with Full HD resolution
OS: Android 5.1 Lollipop
Processor: Snapdragon 620
RAM: 3GB
Camera: 16 meg pixels
The Nexus 5X has the upper hand in terms of having the most recent version of the Android running its system as well as the faster processor. The Galaxy A9 makes up with its bigger screen display, bigger RAM and better camera setup.
As both phones are still to be released, it is interesting to see how each phone fares against the other in this classic Android matchup.
