Serena Williams' circle of WTA Tour friends appears growing in numbers as of late, with former two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka apparently becoming the newest 'sista' of the best female netter in the world.
Aside from racking up Grand Slam titles and breaking all sorts of records throughout her legendary career, Williams hasn't been known much for being friendly on and off the court, especially with her rivals.
However, the American is now starting to bury that perception as she has become more open with her fellow WTA players. Over the last few months, Williams was spotted hanging around with former top-ranked Danish Caroline Wozniacki on a beach and on the sideline of an NBA playoff game.
Ironically, Williams and Wozniacki faced each other in the women's singles finals of the US Open championship, a match that saw Serena bagging her 18th career Grand Slam titles and third straight win in Flushing Meadows.
After Wozniacki, it seems that Serena is getting associated with another former world's no.1 and Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka. Williams and Azarenka have faced each other in back-to-back US Open championships final in 2012 and 2013, which both won by the American.
Williams and Azarenka posted together pictures of themselves on Instagram, showing an unlikely friendship between two of the most competitive players in the women's tour. Williams' friendly demeanor has really surprised her critics, who are starting to believe that Serena is now taking a different approach in terms of his relationship with her fellow tennis players.
"Serena Williams has often been accused of being unfriendly in the locker room by her peers. Growing up, she had her older sister Venus Williams always around and didn't really need any other friends on the tour. But the 33-year-old American, winner of 18 Grand Slam titles, is surely turning over a new leaf in this aspect," according to Tennis World USA.
