If you're looking to relive your "Bonanza" days, then this home in Mesa, Arizona might just be for you! Built in 1963 by the show's star, Lorne Greene, the Ponderosa II is a replica of the ranch house featured on the show, and is currently looking for a new owner willing to shell out $850,000.
"It's pretty amazing when you're in that great room," says homeowner Louise Swann. As a matter of fact, the room, which also includes a huge stone fireplace, is "an exact replica of the set. It's like walking onto the set," describes Swann, who was also a longtime fan of the show.
The great room also includes the staircase that leads guests to the home's bedrooms, as seen on the show. However, in this Ponderosa home, the stairs lead to an attic.
As it turns out, the current listing agent of the Ponderosa II had an interesting story to tell regarding how he first found the home. Realtor.com reports:
"Agent Daniel Mullins was concluding some business with a client in Mesa, AZ, one day when the client casually mentioned that Mullins should visit the Ponderosa house down the street. When Mullins, who grew up a big fan of the TV series 'Bonanza,' saw the home, he immediately knew what his client was talking about."
Mullins also pointed out that the home is built using real logs, which were "cut into crescent shapes to enable attaching of wallboard in some rooms."
"Bonanza" was a long running show, having run on NBC from 1959 to 1973. The show followed the lives of the Cartwright family: Greene's character, Ben, was the patriarch with his three adult sons.
Apparently, the homeowners' undying love for "Bonanza" was what pushed them to purchase the home back in 2011.
"It was a project for us to save the house, to restore it," says Swann. "We've spent the last four-and-a-half years bringing back Bonanza. It's taken a lot of TLC. We always intended to save it, get it preserved, and pass it on to the next person to love it."
