Do you remember the hit 90's movie "Home Alone"? It has been 30 years since it first premiered in the cinemas and Disney is now making a sweet tribute to that movie. The said tribute is a sweet gingerbread house made by a local cake artist, depicting the house that many saw in the movie.
The Gingerbread House Tribute Depicts a Movie Scene
To remind you what is the movie about: a boy named Kevin is the son of the huge McCallister family, wherein he was accidentally left alone in their huge McCallister home that is located in a Chicago suburb. While being alone in their home, two wet bandit thieves named Harry and Marv try to rob the said home, only to be foiled by Kevin's elaborate and whacky traps he has made as a defense against the two robbers.
This Christmas family comedy film was directed by Chris Columbus while being written and produced by John Hughes. It stars the child actor Macaulay Culkin (during his time) as Kevin McCallister, the main protagonist, along with the following actors:
- Joe Pesci, as one of the wet bandits named Harry.
- Daniel Stern, as Marv, the other wet bandit that is the partner of Harry.
- John Heard, as Kevin's father in the movie, Peter.
- Catherine O'Hara, the wife of Peter and Kevin's mother.
Now, going back to the movie tribute. According to News 10 ABC, the said tribute is a house replica of the McCallister household. However, it is made purely from gingerbread (for the house model) and white icing (to act as snow) by the food and cake artist named Michelle Wibowo.
Amazingly, the said tribute took the artist almost 300 hours to make. Meanwhile, it measured around 1.25 meters wide and 1.7 meters long, making it a huge diorama of the said house in the movie. Fans of the movie will love the well-sculpted and replicated details from the movie, from the van the robbers drove around the neighborhood, to a scene one of them slips from the snow to an oblivious treehouse near the home.
Other Details of the Home Replica Tribute That You Might Want To Know
Aside from those details mentioned above, there are more details that a dedicated fan can find from this well-made tribute. According to CNet, below are the other details that Michelle has included in the gingerbread house model tribute:
- 66 trees
- 33 windows
- 14 pizza boxes
- 6 lamp posts
Do take note that the actual location of the actual house is located on Lincoln Avenue, in the location of Winnetka, Illinois. So if you want to see the said home in person, don't go to Chicago, as you might be ending up all alone by yourself out there. it is best to bring a friend who knows or is a fan of the said movie.
Be sure to follow the current health protocols though if you are planning to visit the said famous house one day. Enjoy revisiting your childhood memories of watching this movie by seeing the McCallister household in person!
