If you are in your 30s and would often found yourself browsing on real estate listing, then this viral Saturday Night Live fake commercial will surely make you tweet #relatable.
During SNL's recent episode, the hit late-night sketch comedy show made a skit making fun of 30-something millennials who seek pleasure by browsing real estate listings, particularly on the popular listing site, Zillow.
The pre-produced skit features cast members squirming on top of bed and couches, under soft lighting and sexy background music. The 2-minute fake commercial started with a sultry voice asking "Are you bored? Looking for something to spice up your life?"
"You used to want sex but you're in your late 30's now," "and sex isn't really doing it for me anymore," the cast lead by Dan Levy added.
"You need something new, something exciting!"
But instead of pornography or something sexy, the camera revealed how the comedy actors are lusting over luxurious real estate listing.
"I need a new fantasy. Then you need Zillow... Zillow.com
Each cast suggestively narrates how different types of houses are giving them weird satisfaction.
"An updated Colonial, with mature landscaping," Alex Moffat groans.
"I want to flip that," Mikey Day added.
Meanwhile, Dan Levy was seen looking at a $427,000 McMansion listing featuring seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
"I'd never want to live in North Carolina, but if I did I could buy a big gross mansion," Levy declared.
"The pleasure you once got from sex now comes from looking at other people's houses," a voiceover narrated.
Twitter Reacts
The fake yet relatable commercial became a big hit on Twitter and gained massive reactions from 30-something social media users who can relate to finding satisfaction over online real estate listings.
"Bahhahahah I'm in my 30s and I was up late on Zillow last night!!!! This is on point," one Twitter user wrote.
"I feel so attacked having my Zillow addiction out here on the streets," another one added.
Even Zillow's official Twitter account approves the funny commercial and replies with: "Z-Day is the new V-Day."
Meanwhile, standup comedian Ted Alexandro accused SNL of ripping off his joke and posted a snippet from his performance at Comedy Cellar talking about real estate fantasies.
"Dear SNL, I put that joke out last year. Ask your writers, many of whom work at the Comedy Cellar," Alexandro wrote.
Real Estate Listing Obsession
Real estate listing obsession is not new, but the coronavirus global pandemic made online users dig into it more than ever. A data by Comscore ranked Zillow as the 40th most visited website in the US in December 2020 after gaining more than 90 million unique visitors per month.
But American online users are not only lusting on real estate listings. According to the National Association of Realtors, home sales were up by 5.6% with a total sales record of 5.64 million in 2020.
Thanks to the low-interest rates, shuttered offices, and homeowners seeking a new dwelling place during the pandemic, real estate recorded its strongest year since 2006.
