Disneyland Resort has announced it is closing its doors to new guests this week as the park is officially at maximum capacity.
Both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure will stop accepting new guests this week after reaching maximum capacity. This means guests who failed to reserve their spot in the park would not be allowed to enter, even if they have already purchased a ticket, as reported by Inside the Magic.
What Is Disneyland's Reservation System?
The reservation system was first added after the parks reopened following the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, guests would only need to secure a ticket to the parks to enter. However, that procedure caused many guests to be turned away at the gates when the park reached maximum capacity.
Under the reservation system, all guests who have existing tickets or are interested in purchasing theme park tickets are required to reserve their spot in the park. Hotel guests with tickets to the park are also required to make a reservation. The reservations are released on a rolling basis and can be made 180 days in advance.
That being said, parkgoers who purchased dated tickets for an after-hours event, such as the Oogie Boogie Bash, would not be required to make reservations to enter the park.
The influx of parkgoers comes as spring break starts, giving students one week off of school. It also comes after Disneyland Paris issued a call advising guests not to visit Walt Disney Studios Park due to overcrowding and urged guests to "come back later."
"Walt Disney Studios Park is currently very busy. If you have a 2-Park Ticket, head to Disneyland Park instead and come back later," the notice read.
Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is also at capacity on four consecutive days in the first week of April, per WDWMagic. New guests with no reservations may be turned away at the gates. Annual Passholders may still visit the park after 2 p.m. even without a reservation on days when the park is at capacity. However, this is not applicable on Saturdays and Sundays at the Magic Kingdom.
