Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain has listed her historic New York apartment for sale for $7.45 million.
Chastain's unit is located in Midtown's Osborne building, known as one of the most beautiful apartment buildings on 57th Street, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal. The unit is also known for once serving as the home to legendary composer Leonard Bernstein, who wrote the music for West Side Story during his stay there.
The veteran actress and producer paid $5.1 million for the property in 2015. She bought it from composer Adam Guettel, the grandson of composer Richard Rodgers and the composer for the Tony Award-winning musical "The Light in the Piazza."
"As soon as I found out [the seller] was him, I felt like it was meant to be," Chastain told Architectural Digest in 2017. "When I found out about all the other artists and actors who have lived here, I was in love."
The listing is held by Ellen Kapit and Cathy Taub of Sotheby's International Realty.
Chastain's Midtown Apartment
Chastain's 3,800-square-foot apartment unit is found on the fourth floor of the 19th-century co-op. Chastain and her husband, Italian fashion executive Gian Luca Pasi De Preposulo, renovated the unit during their residence in collaboration with design firm Carrier and Company.
The apartment unit features four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The primary suit showcases a wall of mirrored closets and an en suite bathroom with a water closet, dual sinks, a walk-in shower, and a built-in vanity.
The other bedrooms are spread throughout the unit's L-shaped floor plan. However, one bedroom is currently in use as a library in the northern wing, per the New York Post.
Additionally, the unit features period details, including a bay window with Tiffany Studio leaded glass transoms, restored mahogany paneling, elaborate millwork, a wood-burning fireplace, plaster crown molding, and oak parquet flooring.
The actress' unit is pet-friendly and has central air conditioning. The building itself is newly renovated and provides residents access to a gym, storage, 24/7 door attendants, a resident manager, and a landscaped rooftop terrace with views of Central Park.
