The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched an investigation into the Alexander brothers, who are part of a prominent family in luxury real estate, over accusations of rape and sex trafficking.

Agents for an FBI child exploitation and sex trafficking task force are reportedly speaking with the women who alleged they were assaulted by Oren, Alon, and Tal Alexander or who said they witnessed the attacks, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing a document it viewed and people familiar with the matter.

The publication noted that the task force is working alongside government lawyers and is inquiring about sexual assault allegations dating as far back as the Alexander brothers' high school years. The Journal also noted that the agents are investigating reports spanning at least two decades.

In response to the report, a lawyer for Oren and Alon told Business Insider that they were "unaware of any basis for an FBI inquiry into our clients' conduct." A lawyer for Tal said they expect the agents to find that their client has "done nothing wrong."

The FBI has yet to officially confirm or deny the existence of the investigation.

What Spurred the Investigation

In March, two women in New York filed separate lawsuits accusing the Alexander brothers of rape. The lawsuits were filed just as the New York law eliminating the civil status of limitations for sexual assault lawsuits was set to expire. Tal was not named in the two initial lawsuits.

Last month, a new lawsuit accused Alon and Tal of participating in a "coordinated sexual assault" in 2012 while Oren was accused of "watching."

"Ms. Parker was raped by Alon and Tal Alexander, together, in a coordinated sexual assault that was planned and facilitated by Oren Alexandar along with his brothers. Specifically, Alon Alexander orally and vaginally raped Ms. Parker," the suit read.

Additionally, Atty. Evan Torgan, one of the lawyers who filed the initial lawsuits, said nearly 30 other women have stepped forward to accuse the Alexander brothers of rape and sexual assault.

"I've spoken to approximately 15 people who say to me they were raped by the Alexander brothers, one [brother] or more, at various times, in New York City, South Beach, and in other states as well," Torgan said. "I'm talking to new victims every day."
