Elon Musk is currently the world's richest man. But despite his wealth, Musk lives in a tiny home in Texas.

In May 2020, Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he was selling "almost all physical possessions." The billionaire also noted that he will "own no house," telling one of his followers he was letting go of his possessions and real estate properties for "freedom."

Musk's Mansions

Following the post, Musk listed his seven mansions in California. The asking prices for all seven homes was more than $100 million, according to Architectural Digest.

One of the mansions Musk sold was a 16,251-square-foot in the Bel Air neighborhood. He bought the seven-bedroom property in 2012 for $17 million.

That property was listed it for $30 million in 2020. He sold it to Chinese billionaire William Ding for $29 million. The sale was reported by Wall Street Journal, citing public records.

Another property Musk owned and sold was a four-bedroom, 2,750-square-foot home previously owned by the late Hollywood legend Gene Wilder. He sold the property in 2020 to Wilder's nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman, and his wife, Elizabeth Hunter, for $7 million. However, Musk is now foreclosing on the property after the couple fell behind on payments.

Meyers has listed that property for $12.95 million.

Musk's other mansions include four properties also in the Bel-Air neighborhood. Three of the four were on the same road. The tech billionaire bought a 7,000-square-foot house first and later added a ranch house on an adjacent street, an unfinished home three doors down, and a Colonial home next to that.

The four properties were sold collectively on Zillow with a price tag of $62.5 million. He sold them six months later to developer-designer Ardie Tavangarian.

The final property was a 16,000-square-foot mansion in Hillsborough that Musk. He bought the property for $23.4 million in 2017. The mansion was initially listed for $37.5 million in 2020. The price was cut to $32 million.

The property found a buyer in 2021 for $30 million, Mansion Global reported.

Musk's Tiny Home

Musk moved to a tiny home in Boca Chica after selling his mansions. The home is believed to cost $50,000.

As of Sept. 8, Musk had a net worth of $241.8 billion. He could also become the world's first trillionaire by 2027.
