'Grey': Newest 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Book Sold More Than 1.1 Million Copies, Stolen Copy Being Investigated

The popularity of Christian Grey increases as Grey stands at No. 1 on USA Today's list of Best-Selling Books. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, by 10 to 1 was reported as the No. 2 Best Selling Book.

Erika Mitchell, popularly known as E.L James' follow up to the Fifty Shades franchise that tells about the relationship between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, it was told from Grey's perspective. Grey took the top spot for only four days, even if there was a theft incident on the latest installment of the Fifty Shades of Grey, one week before it was supposed to be published according to USA Today.

According to the report, Penguin Random House UK (the book's publisher) discovered that a copy of the book was missing and it was already reported to the police on Tuesday, but according to Higgins, it was decided that the book will still be published on Christian Grey's Birthday (June 18).

The publisher and the solicitors, according to the report from BBC news, would not provide any other details about the lost book. Spokesman made a statement quoted as "We have no comment to make due to an ongoing police investigation". A reply from Kent Police stated that "Officers are making inquiries after receiving a report that a book had been stolen on June 8."

Grey has sold more than 1.1 million copies. Anne Missitte, the publisher of Vintage Anchor, quoted, "This is an astonishing number of books to sell over a weekend and speaks to the engagement and passion readers have for the Fifty Shades books," and due to the high demand, the publisher brought a total number of copies in print to 2.1 million.

Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, this Fifty Shades trilogy had sold more than 125 million copies worldwide. The novel held a record-breaking No.1 spot on USA Today's book list for twenty straight weeks in 2012 (April 26-Sept. 6). Fifty Shades of Grey returned to No. 1 on Feb. 19.
